SHAFIEKA'S STORY
Shafieka’s affectionate moniker as the “baby of the market” may stem from her comparatively shorter time at the market. Although she is a 4th generation flower seller at the market, she started out selling flowers at The Fruit and Veg City. Her mother in law then asked her to take over the business at Trafalgar place and she has been working there for 12 years.
Shafieka wanted her portrait taken with her favorite flowers, stargazers, but she wanted to chose a selection of ‘singles’ that comprised of carnations, chrysanthemums, blombos and rose peonies. She has stalls at various locations and she often sells her flowers at markets. She’s going to be showcasing and selling her flowers for an upcoming market in August at the District Six Museum, celebrating women’s month.
Shafieka’s dedication and energy make her a force to be reckoned with. When asked if there was anything else she wanted to tell me, her response was, “I just love to sell flowers!”
